Production Q: What kinds of customers does HGL have?

A: HGL can produce most metal products in a competitive way. Products benefitting the most have high labour content, high electronics content, relatively low weight and volume and are aimed at a price-sensitive market. Low labour cost and the vicinity to the largest electronics-manufacturing cluster in the world bring down production and assembly cost. If the output needs are fairly predictable, shipping by sea is less costly. If there is a great need for flexibility, then air transport may be the solution – at a higher price. A: Not really. The order quantity depends on the product, the timeline and the assignment at hand.
HGL is particularly strong for small to medium-sized batches, 200-20,000 pieces per batch. Back to top Q: What materials are HGL working with?
A: Most of our customers specify steel, stainless steel, aluminium and brass. We do work with titanium and other metals as well. Back to top Q: What sizes are suitable for producing with HGL?
A: Depending on the product, we are particularly competitive for products min 2 mm, max 500 mm (shortest/longest measurement). Back to top
Q: What size of batches are you most competitive producing?
A: It depends on the product, but if you have batches between 200 and 20,000 pieces you should definitely consider us. Back to top
Q: What information is needed to obtain a quote?
A: For relatively simple components, flat engineering drawings will do. For more complex products, a set of three-dimensional CAD models for each of the product's parts. In addition to that, information and specifications on volumes, batch sizes, destinations, material, assembly requirements, quality control directions, target pricing and delivery mode. A: Yes. Together with our partners we can provide any packaging, and the more elaborate packaging, the more significant cost-savings by letting HGL do the job here. It makes good sense producing the graphics and printing here. Back to top
Intellectual property
Q: How do you deal with Intellectual Property rights?
A: HGL is registered in Hong Kong, where the legal system is based on the British common law. This means intellectual property rights are strongly protected and enforced by law.
We will sign non-disclosure agreements with you, where the intellectual rights are clearly identified as your property. Back to top Q: How can we prevent our designs from being stolen by competitors?
A: You should apply for patents and trademark registration in your own country and wherever your product is to be sold.

Q: What types of assembly do you do?

Q: How does HGL ensure your factory and your suppliers do not violate human or worker’s rights?
A: Our code of conduct lists requirements that we put on ourselves and on our partners. If our suppliers do not adhere to the standards, we first try to rectify the situation in a cooperative manner. Q: How does HGL ensure an environmentally responsible behaviour from yourself and your suppliers?
A: Our Environmental Policy lists a number of requirements that we put on ourselves and on our partners. If our suppliers do not follow the policy, we first try to correct the situation in a cooperative manner. Q: How can HGL ensure that the product will be of high quality?
A: We operate according to ISO9001:2000 and we are audited by SGS Hong Kong. This ensures our qualifications and commitment to quality.
We can set up any quality standard and quality control level. Again, the generally low labour cost ensures these measures are not overlooked. Back to top Q: How does HGL ensure the quality level will remain stable over time?
A: Quality-testing protocols are specified for each product and batch. Combined with your specifications and our quality controls, a standard quality procedure is established, which we follow and document for every shipment. Back to top
Shipping and logistics
Q: How long does shipping from China take?
A: Sea freight takes about 6 weeks to Europe and the US east coast, about 4 weeks to the US west coast. Back to top Q: Who handles the freight and duty issues?
A: You decide. We can handle all freight and duty issues, or you can do it if you have better rates.
In practice, with most customers, HGL acts as their freight-forwarder due to the regular and large volumes we ship from here.
If you would use a similar arrangement, freight cost and duty will all be billed together on one invoice, making your administration simpler. Back to top Q: How will I know the shipping cost?

A: Yes, we do. No product is ready until it’s delivered to the customer, by sea or air, to your warehouse, or point of sales, or to our logistics centres in Europe. Back to top Q: If I order from several providers, could HGL consolidate my goods for shipping?
A: Wes, we can consolidate your goods so you won’t have more shipments than needed. Back to top Q. How are finished goods shipped to me?
A. Our freight forwarders arrange shipping with major shipping lines. For urgent shipments, we can ship by airfreight to most major airports, or by courier directly to your door, usually within two or three days. Back to top Q: Do you pack consumer packages?
